The Foundation celebrated its 20th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, Nov. 14, was a great success, with 200 guests in attendance. Honoree Phil Klay, White Plains native and award-winning author of “Redeployment,” delighted the audience by telling stories about his formative days at White Plains library and how his love of reading developed him as a writer. He also shared some of his harrowing experiences as a Marine in Iraq which were the basis of his short story collection. Mayor Thomas Roach declared November 14, 2015 to be “Phil Klay Day” in White Plains, and the Library Foundation made a contribution in Phil Klay’s name to the Veterans Writing Workshop, an organization (and library partner) that helps veterans and their families express their experiences.
